Watercolor Painting - Some Basic Information
A local resident from Bridgewater has captured the glory of Shenandoah Valley more than once on canvas. This artist has been painting for 36 years and her goal is not just to paint nature and carry around oils and easel in mountain ridges and rolling cornfields. To paint beautiful masterpieces, she also uses images that she cuts out from the newspapers. For more information on paintings check out photo into painting.
She tells us that the clippings are her way of using black and white again to put back the color, like in the old days. To create larger and more beautiful paintings, she clips images of animals and objects, she adds. The mural that stretches 15 by 4 feet to her family room is actually a product of a newspaper cut-out of two millstones. The rustic scene of the millhouse and the grey mill wheels perfectly complement one another, and the riverbank.
She emphasizes that the large wall mural visualizes the parts of her masterpieces, such as how she uses photographs to add detail to her wood land animal paintings, weatherboard buildings, and so on. Water is the one thing that she needs there. Water is not hard to paint, it goes fast.
Soon, she is going to start painting with a snow scene in one of the newest photo cut outs she revealed. Snow is fast and easy to make, too. This artist only hangs two or three paintings in her home, which are the large mural, and two other smaller scenes. Most of her paintings, apparently, were sold right after having been finished or given away to friends. She sells a lot of them to a furniture store in Maryland. She also paints at the request of friends and neighbors. She says she has so many orders she needs to get busy and start filling them up. Most of her customers come around by Christmas, because her paintings are perfect for gifts.
This artist first picked up her brushes when she was just 13, with the help of a nice old lady in a Rockingham County, Green mount section neighborhood. Each afternoon, she would pay 25 cents for a lesson. Her mother made her a small pallet using a lightweight weight board a long time ago, and she has kept it since. A note telling about how it was made was decoupage on the old pallet even though it was stained with paint all over.
She saved a lot of items from their church, which was put down six years ago, and placed the items for display on their family room. The river view is amazing as the sun passes through the glass wall that covers the whole face of the room. She said that it was done to bring in the woods and the nature indoors.
She was troubled about finding something that would fit the room as she was making the mural. She even sand papered the painting off when she was three quarters finished because the children didn't like tithe painting shows fall's bright foliage in rusts, reds and gold's and perfectly fits the rustic family room. Since other paintings and the sunny den would most likely not get noticed, and that the attention of people will just go the mural, she decided that she would keep her house as it is.
Can anyone help me identify this knife?
I recently purchased an antique knife at a yard sale. I can not find any info about the knife. The blade says Solingen on one side (I know what that is) and on the other side it says IMCO Implement Co. Germany, it also has a stag handle that could have been a replacement. Any info regarding knife would be great. Thanx.
Sounds like the kives they gave away to retireing employees in the 70s and 80s
