Sog flash assisted opening knife?
is this a good knife? how long do they last?
I own the SOG Flash I and II. The II is about three years old; I can't remember when I bought the original Flash. It's a little heavy, the clip is resilient and the blade holds an edge well, but not great. The blade seems stronger than most to me and is thicker feeling. The opener help works great and I have not had the mechanism fail. Because of its weight I only carry the Flash with a heavier pant, like jeans. Note that you can get it in a plain clip point or a partially serrated. The serrations are good if you're carrying a clip knife to cut yourself out of a seatbelt in case of an accident but make sharpening more of a task. The lock is solid enough. Factor in a sub-$35 price and it's a very good value. Overall, a "B" knife IMHO. It is decent enough quality to last years.
You might want to look at the several Amazon reviews of the product by users (like me) who bought one there: http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialty-Knives-FSA-7-Straight/dp/B000KOW8A6
Look at this page (FSA 8 iteration of the Flash) to see the sub-versions of the Flash: http://www.amazon.com/SOG-Specialty-Knives-Tools-FSA-8/dp/B000IXC7IW/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_text_b. The tiger stripe FSA-5 has a very unique, pseudo-damascus blade kind of a look...
