Excalibur: The Sword Of Legend

Magic and myth were prevalent during early 6th century Britain, a time when the Saxons led invasions on Britain's rulers and a legendary king was to lead Britain in the defense against these tribes of Saxons.  King Arthur was this king of legend who, according to myth, folklore, medieval histories and romances, established an empire over Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway and Gaul. As the Arthurian legends are steeped in myth and mystery, the legend of King Arthur’s magical Excalibur sword is iconic of King Arthur, himself.  Adding to the myth and magic of the Arthurian legends are Camelot, Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the wizard, and the Holy Grail.

The different versions of the legend of King Arthur has the magical Excalibur sword presented to Arthur either by him pulling it out of the stone or by him receiving it from the Lady of the Lake.  In one version of Arthurian legend, after Uther Pendragon's death, Merlin told the Knights of the Round Table that the person who drew a magical sword from a stone would be Uther's successor.  This magical sword mysteriously appeared in London and many knights tried to pull it from the stone and failed.  After a number of years Arthur, with a knight as his guardian, journeyed to London to watch his first tournament and the knight taking part in the tournament had no sword.  The knight sent Arthur to get a sword and not realizing the significance of the sword in the stone, Arthur pulled the sword out and the heir of Uther was revealed.  This sword in the stone had magical properties, but it may have not been Excalibur.  Arthur was not accepted as king by all the knights and only with Merlin's help was he able to defeat his opponents.  Upon one occasion, Arthur drew his own sword against one of his knights without cause and the sword's blade shattered and Merlin saved him by putting the knight to sleep.  Arthur then wandered in despair along the shore of a lake and to his bewilderment, he saw another magical sword, held in hand, rise out of the water.  This sword was the Excalibur of legend and the Lady of the Lake handing the sword to Arthur assured him that this sword is his sure support.  Arthur, now reassured, went on to be a great king defeating the Saxons.  In battle against Sir Modred, Arthur's nephew, King Arthur was wounded and carried away by his remaining two knights and knowing his own end was near, he told his knights to throw Excalibur into the lake, where Excalibur was seized by a hand out of the water.  Then Arthur boarded a magic boat and went to Avalon to be cured of his wounds.  Avalon was another name for the Welsh otherworld and one version of the Arthurian legend implies that Excalibur was forged there.

The mystical and magical Excalibur sword has been finely reproduced by Marto and with the Excalibur product review see the specifications for this magnificent sword.
