Should You Risk Surgery To Control Excessive Sweating
Once you've exhausted most of the other excessive sweating treatment options available for hyperhidrosis, and haven't found relief for excessive sweating, you may be forced to go under the knife.
There are a number of surgical excessive sweating treatments out there. Be sure that you start by consulting your physician about hyperhidrosis surgery options.
Of those surgical treatments available, you will find those that include the removal of the sweat glands and a very specialized—and very risky—procedure called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or ETS. The latter surgery is generally discouraged by physicians. This is because ETS is considered more serious and there can be unpleasant side effects such as compensatory sweating.
A surgery is termed local because it is performed at the site of the excessive sweating. There three surgical techniques that are performed locally: excision, curettage, and liposuction. Each of these local options are used in the treat of serious underarm sweating. All involve the removal of the sweat glands. Excision is literally cutting out the sweat glands that are producing too much moisture. With curettage, the process is more of a controlled scraping of the sweat glands. The final local surgery technique is liposuction which uses precise suction to extract the sweat glands.
As previously mentioned, most dermatologists are slow to suggest ETS as an excessive sweating treatment because of its reputation. In ETS, the physician is trying to impede the transfer of information via nerve impulses from the spinal column to the sweat glands themselves. In effect, the surgery's purpose is to "turn off" these signals so they can't "turn on" the sweat glands.
ETS is an invasive surgery since it requires cutting into the chest via the armpit and inserting a tiny camera. Once the camera is in place, one of the lungs will be collapsed to offer clear view to the nerve pathways so they can be eliminated to treat the hyperhidrosis. The surgery is typically performed on both sides of the body. In most cases, ETS is used to treat palm and underarm hyperhidrosis.
The side effects of ETS known as compensatory sweating have been mentioned in passing. It will often appear on the face, chest, back, abdomen, legs, and even buttocks. There is a chance that this secondary sweating can be worse that the initial problem.
Since you have a better idea of what is available, you should really take the time to consider the consequences of pursuing hyperhidrosis surgery. Again, surgery should be the final category of options you pursue for excessive sweating treatment. Once you have gone through every other option for excessive sweating treatment including Botox injections, prescription antiperspirants, iontophoresis, and anticholinergics, you may then start looking into surgical ones.
Should be interested in surgery to treat hyperhidrosis symptoms, then you must talk to your doctor before making final decisions. Surgery should be taken serious because it does have definite risks. Don't be hasty in making a decision about surgery, especially when ETS is concerned. The doctor will be able to explain the full range of options available to you so you do not make hasty decisions. You probably understand that spending a little time examining what is entailed with surgery may help you avoid a mistake with far-reaching consequences.
BE HONEST: whats the most trouble you have ever been in at school?
yeah so what is the most trouble you ever been in, what did you do, what was the punishment and what do you think about what you did.
ok this is my one:
the most trouble i have ever been in was when i made my own hand-made knife in technology when we were supposed to be making cars. i was going to attach it to my car not use it to kill people or do bad stuff etc. teacher found it in lesson when she WENT THROUGH MY PENCIL CASE. i got external exclusion for 5 days.
I tried to sell 'pet' rocks at school in grade 3 and the teacher got so angry at me so I tried to blame it on my dad and then the teacher gave me a massive lecture in front of the whole class (It was SO embarassing!) saying what I was doing was wrong. At the time I thought it was a great way to earn myself money, but I know now that what I did was pretty stupid. But I am now in grade 8 and I hardly ever get in trouble:)
