How Painful Is Irezumi Tattooing?
A tattoo is one thing, but i was thinking of possibly getting a tattoo the Japanese traditonal way of Irezumi inking. can any give a few words as to what i would be looking at, or rather feel if i wanted to go through with an Irezumi tattooing session? Thanks You.
Hey, I had one of these done a few months ago. It's a lotus flower right on my sternum, coloured red.
Firstly, it looks great. The gradations of colour and shading you get are much more subtle than you can generally get with a machine. And it's an interesting experience to go through, definitely.
However, it does hurt. A lot. And unlike tattoos done by machine, the pain doesn't really fade away as you go. Strangely though, it's actually easier to sit still through the session. At least that's how it was for me. To be honest, mine was over bone the whole time, which is worse anyway, so it may be less painful on an arm, or even your back.
Honestly, I'd do it again, but just remember that it takes longer (so it costs more) and the pain is at least somewhat worse.
