Out The Front Knives Are The Coolest Knives Pocket Knives
With nearly twenty years of being a leader in the knife making industry, Microtech has just one goal, to create the best possible knives. In keeping with this goal, Microtech manufactures 95% of their very own parts, puts experts in charge of designing and engineering each and every knife, while offering a lifetime warranty. These things stay the same, no matter what style of knives you happen to be referring to.
From the numerous styles they have developed, the Microtech out the front knives set the standard. Often known as OTF knives, knives in this style are made with the blade inside the hilt. When triggered, the blade comes out of the front of the hilt, not the side like conventional pocket knives. Think about them like pens - the tip of the pen sits inside the pen case until the button is pushed down, and the tip comes out of the front.
OTF knives can be found in two different styles - automatic and spring assisted. Automatic OTF knives are triggered with a button, and extend independently. Spring assisted OTF knives open through a spring once a element of the knife is opened manually. OTF knives also come in single action or double action styles.
Single action OTF knives are ones that open with a button, and must then be manually closed before they're able to open again. Double action OTF knives go in and out by pushing a button, or by operating a slide button. Microtech out the front knives also comes in both single action and double action styles.
Microtech out the front knives includes a number of nice attributes going for them. The very first is that their slim design is simple to carry, both in your pocket or in your pack. Another nice feature would be that the spring assisted designs include an element which allows the spring to stay at rest when it isn't in use. This extends the life of the spring, and then the knife.
A third fantastic aspect of Microtech knives is that they come in a variety of blade styles, including single edge and double edge. You may also choose from plain edges, serrated edges, or combination edges. The length of each blade will depend on the model of knife.
As with any other knife manufacturer, the expense of the blade is going to be determined by the characteristics of the blade. Cost can even vary by the dealers you choose to buy your Microtech out the front knives from. The cheap OTF Knives will brake easier. Your better Microtech knives are going to run you between $180 to $600, based on the things just mentioned. Several models are available in a couple of different colors, which you can choose depending on personal preference.
A leader in tactical knives that are some of the best on the market, Microtech knives are sure to meet your performance expectations. And remember they feature a lifetime warranty, in the event you get one that for some reason got out of the factory in less than 100% perfect condition.
Blackhack Crucible II Folder vs SOG Aegis?
they both have a similar appearance but i was wondering which is more durable, stays sharp longer, and other such qualities a good tactical pocket knife has such as assisted opening. i dont think the crucible has assisted opening. it would be my EDC knife.
Blackhawk Crucible II
Blade AUS 8
3.2inch'shs long, overall 8 inch's long
G-10 handles
Weight 6.6 ounces ( thats more than a roll of pennys )
Price - from $60 - $90
SOG Aegis
Blade AUS 8
3.5 inch's , 8.25 inch's long
Zytel handle with Kraton rubber inserts
Weight 3.3 ounces
Price - from $60 - $90
Now which is better ??
The Blackhawk is probably more durable, but them it weighs almost twice as much.
The backhawk is not really a knife you can comfortably carry in your pocket. It just weighs to much.
Assisted opening is not a big deal, quality folders can all be opened one handed with the thumb stud
The SOG does have a blade lock, that can be disengaged with just one hand.
IE: one hand can both open and close the blade.
Where the Blackhawk has a lock liner blade lock, that takes two hands to close the knife.
So you have to make the decision, you want a heavier more ruggedly built knife, or a lighter knife, that still rugged, just not as rugged.
I'd go with the SOG, just because it is a knife, you can comfortably carry everyday.
Just put a penny roll in your pocket and see how comfortable that is to carry all day weight wise.
Both are approx the same size, with the SOG being just slighter larger.
EDIT:
One note, the Crucible has steel liners in the handle, thats why it is heavier, but thats what makes it stronger.
The Aegis has a Zytel plastic handle, no steel liners, thats why its lighter, and it means its more of a pure cutting knife, because any torque could break the handle.
